CYS Goes to City of Hope

Recently we had an amazing opportunity to visit the City of Hope Campus in Los Angeles, CA. We flew down to LA along with the other members on the board for the Yoga for Hope event happening this fall on September 17th. We were taken on a private guided tour throughout the 100 acres of the campus and got to hear about all the amazing research and care that goes into the comprehensive cancer research center.

We met with three different doctors throughout the tour and got to hear first hand their clinical trials that they are working on and researching. They spoke about translational research, which rapidly turns laboratory breakthroughs into promising new therapies for patients. We also got to hear first hand what type of preventative measures they are taking to prolong the lives of children and adults who have had cancer and beaten it. The breakthroughs they are having with cancer, diabetes, and HIV research is breathtaking and really brings a whole new meaning to life.

In addition to all the amazing Doctors who dedicate their lives to cancer research, we also were able to hear about alternative therapies such as yoga and meditation. Yoga and meditation classes are offered to all patients on campus and help them cope during and after their stay at the City of Hope.

One of the highlights of the tour was the lushly landscaped gardens with more than 2000 types of roses surrounding the state-of-the-art research center and hospital. The Japanese meditative garden, just beyond the roses, was also a super special place to see and spend some quiet moments sinking it all in. Both the rose garden and Japanese garden are open to all the patients and families to come and visit and spend some quality time together.

Overall the tour was a really touching experience and as a company we are even more invested in helping raise money for the Yoga for Hope event happening this September in Union Square of downtown San Francisco.
